Sugar News ASEAN member countries discuss sugar exports 1/2/23

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is exploring the merits of increasing the minimum access volume (MAV) for sugar exports in order to address the rising prices of sugar in the domestic market. Agriculture Undersecretary Mercedita A. Sombilla stated that the agency is currently assessing the country’s sugar needs for the year. It’s worth noting that the MAV for sugar is subject to a 50% tariff, with the exception of sugar imported from ASEAN member countries.
