Crop Conditions Steady as Markets Eye July Weather

Crop Conditions Hold Firm

June 30, 2025 – The latest USDA Crop Conditions & Progress report shows national row crop conditions holding steady with only minor week-over-week changes. Key growing regions in the Midwest are approaching critical reproductive stages, with the focus now turning to July weather as a potential yield maker—or breaker.

🌽 Corn Conditions

The U.S. corn crop is currently rated 73% Good to Excellent, up from 66% the previous year. Only 5% of the crop is rated Poor or Very Poor. The Fair category accounts for 22%.

Corn silking reached 8% nationwide, slightly ahead of the 5-year average. The best-rated states include Iowa (63% G/E), Minnesota (55%), and Nebraska (58%).

🌱 Soybean Conditions

National soybean condition ratings held at 66% Good to Excellent, matching last week. 7% of the crop is rated Poor or Very Poor, and 27% is Fair.

Blooming progress advanced to 16%, in line with the 5-year average. Pod setting is underway in early southern fields.

🌾 Spring Wheat Conditions

Spring wheat is now rated 53% Good to Excellent, with 5% rated Excellent and 48% Good. 30% of the crop is Fair, while just 5% falls in the Poor/Very Poor category.

Heading reached 37% nationwide, with North Dakota leading at 62% G/E.

🌾 Winter Wheat Harvest & Conditions

The U.S. winter wheat crop is rated 48% Good to Excellent, with 7% rated Excellent and 41% Good. 20% of the crop is in Poor or Very Poor condition, while 39% is rated Fair.

Harvest has reached 42% completion, with southern Plains states nearing finish while activity increases in Kansas, Nebraska, and the Northern Plains.

🧭 Looking Ahead

Crop conditions are entering a key stretch, especially for corn and soybeans as reproductive stages begin. With July forecasts hinting at stretches of heat and limited rainfall in parts of the Corn Belt, condition scores over the next three weeks will be closely watched for early yield signals.
